History
Walter M. Wilk is the founder of Chemical Industries Inc., launching the company in 1989. Walter grew up in New York City and became a sales rep for a chemical company as a young man. Walter soon was promoted to sales manager for the company’s Canadian Division. After establishing a good rapport with his clients across the border in Canada, he noticed that their biggest complaint was a lack of personal service and environmentally safe products
The entrepreneurial Walter soon realized that if he took his knowledge of chemicals, his business experience and his professional salesmanship to Canada, he would be able to better meet his clients’ needs.
In 1989, Walter immigrated to Canada, moving to Toronto, where he soon made contact with a local chemist to work on Walter’s environmentally safe product ideas. Together they came up with a wide variety of safe chemicals to manufacture and distribute. Initially they focused on Canada. Today Chemical Industries Inc. distributes North America-wide.
Shortly after launching operations, Walter hired sales and office staff, acquired a warehouse for his manufacturing and distribution, and incorporated Chemical Industries Inc.
In 1990 Walter decided on a Mission Statement to help guide Chemical Industries Inc. into the future. That same Mission Statement continues to guide the company today, along with the company’s formal Vision – plus the dreams of Walter and his colleagues.
In 1997, Walter realized that Chemical Industries Inc. was not servicing western Canada as efficiently as he would like. Pursuing his dreams of expansion and in keeping with his general determination, he moved to Calgary, Alberta and opened the Western Division of Chemical Industries Inc.
Today the western division is named Chemical Industries (Alberta) Inc. Based in Calgary, it is the company’s head office distribution centre, servicing Canada, Northern Canada and the United States.
Today Chemical Industries Inc. employs approximately 25+ employees and managers at the two locations. Walter currently divides his time between the offices and exploring new processes and technologies.
